So, Apple have announced iOS4

A couple of days ago Apple released iOS 4, their new replacement for iPhone OS on their “mobile” devices.

Firstly, I am pleased that Apple have FINALLY caught up with the rest of the world. They are the last company to have multi-tasking (sort of), just like they were that last to have Cut, Copy and Paste. Steve Jobs claims that they wanted Cut, Copy and Paste just right, but I can’t really see any other way of doing it so I don’t understand why it took so long to make.

Another think Apple have release is FaceTime. Now, Apple claim that it is an Open project, but they are wrong because they are using AAC and H.264 for audio and video, which are not open codecs. They also claim that it has never been done before, but they are very wrong here because it has been done before many times.

Finally, the iPad. I think this is probably the worst product Apple have made over the past couple of months, there are two main reasons for this:

  1. If you use iPhone apps on the iPad all that they have done is scaled the app, so it looks completely pixelated and horrible.
  2. The iPad is too big to hold with one hand, yet it is too small to hold with two hands.

I really don’t know what Apple are doing with this product but it seems completely pointless to me.

  1. Biggles1000:
    1) Yes, and then they charge a lot more for perhaps 5 minutes work!
    2) Yes, I can hold a netbook in one hand AND type on it (with the other, obviously) – have you seen me before school? Lol.

Anyway, iPhone apps looking pixellated is the least of their problems – the font size is MASSIVE, it’s like looking at a phone for blind people!

There are many other problems not been mentioned but I’ll just point you towards Dr. Ashens’s review of it: http://ashens.com – covers most things.
